In my last three weeks in Santa Barbara, I decided that I was going to make the most of my time there and hang out with all of my friends, while exploring and trying new things. I had the wonderful opportunity to stay at my friends house-Hannah, Jenna, Leah, and Molly-let me invade their space for three weeks. This was one of the greatest things I could have ever done- I met new friends, reconnected with old ones, and laughed a lot. I am so grateful for that time that brought all of us closer together.
I called up my friend Arna one day, and we decided to go on an impromptu photo session for fun. This was the first time in I don’t even know how long that I was able to drop everything and just shoot. Personal projects are so important, and shooting for yourself is one of the most rewarding things you can do as an artist and creator. Arna and I didn’t have a plan, we just wanted to explore the beauty of Santa Barbara.
I must admit, I have a little curl envy when it comes to Arna’s gorgeous hair. She is an amazing photographer who continues to blow me away with her portraits and lifestyle work. She still has a year left at Brooks, (I sure wasn’t this good with a year left!), and started a personal polaroid project where she is going to take a polaroid a day to mark her last year at Brooks. She inspires the crap out of me and I’m so fortunate to have such a great friend/photographer in my life.
I’ve made some of the best friends I could ever ask for at Brooks, and they all happen to be phenomenal photographers. I know that we will all continue to collaborate and learn from each other as we go out in the world as professionals. It’s good to know that we have such a great community that has each other’s backs and isn’t concerned with competition as much as working and helping each other succeed. I love what I do and I love that I’ve been exposed to such incredible creative minds. Get inspired too… check out their work! I’m all moved to Seattle and loving it. My favorite part about the city is the fact that they sell wine at coffee shops… so now I don’t feel like such a poser going into coffee shops when I don’t really drink coffee… :).
