Sometimes you just know a couple will be great parents…
Abby and Scott have been best friends for 12 years. They are both from Lincoln, Nebraska (my hometown), but they made Oregon their new home together in 2006, starting out in Portland and moving to Eugene shortly thereafter.
Abby and Scott have decided to wait to find out the sex of their baby and concentrate more on making sure it’s a healthy one. They have both been very involved with this pregnancy, and they have a natural birth plan: they’ve decided to do a water birth in their home with the coaching help of Abby’s midwife. Abby and Scott have the utmost respect for each other and it’s important to them that there’s equality in their relationship. This is why they both changed their names when they got married, using Abby’s name for the first part of their last name and Scott’s name for the second part of their last name.. I have no doubt that they are going raise this little one to have the same love and respect for others as they do for each other.
My inspiration for this photo shoot stemmed from the natural beauty of Oregon and also from their three animals: two cats (Holstein and Jersey) and a dog (Quincy). I wanted to capture the love they have for each other and the excitement they have for this baby. I had them bring along some items that are meaningful to them: Abby’s homemade blanket from her mother, Mickey; an adorable Oregon onesie from Scott’s mom, Sue; a Husker bib from Scott’s sister, Jennie; a knit owl from a friend of Abby’s mom; and the sweetest “Mama and Baby” book from Scott’s sister, Katie—all of which fit perfectly in the cute wicker basket we brought along. I always have my clients bring along items that are special to them, so there’s a story to go with each detail shot.
This was the most incredible Oregon January day, with the sun shining brightly outside. We started in Hendricks park which is filled with tall and mossy trees. Then we randomly found an empty parking lot with these blue garage doors, on our way to Alton Baker Park, our final location.
This was my first ever maternity session, so I wanted to make it count, ensuring I created unique and inspiring images to document this beautiful part of life. Sometimes a shoot just falls perfectly into place, and with Abby’s and Scott’s carefree attitudes and free spirits, something special happened. I am overjoyed, not only with the session, but also with the experience of it.
Thank you, Abby and Scott, for trusting me to document your baby to be!
Scott got a little sleepy…
Probably my favorite shot from the entire shoot:
Little Husker baby!
I felt it made the most sense to post this the same month Abby and Scott are due! I’m excited (as I’m sure they are) to meet their little one! Abby is due on March 22- and I’m sure they are getting anxious! I can tell you one thing.. no matter boy or girl, this is going to be one outdoor lovin’ baby! 🙂
