Katherine met her friend, Kelly, when she was in the Peace Corps, and when Katherine planned part of our trip to visit the mountain region of the Andes in Ancash, Kelly wanted us to take a day trip up to her site to capture it before she leaves this summer. This was easily one of my favorite days in Peru- complete with a tour of the tiny town of Mancos, delicious sandwiches, and the cutest little dog you will ever meet, OREO.
We started at Kelly’s house families home where she’s been living while in Peru. She gave us a tour of the school she works that is next door, where she told us about the map she helped the kids paint and how she teaches English to the kids there. It was fascinating to see the work that she does in the Peace Corps and also to be so warmly welcomed by all the people in Mancos that know and love Kelly. We took so many fun photos around town, but Kelly really wanted me to capture the essence of her site and daily life. I made sure to take details of the streets she walks every day and also wide shots to see the town. I absolutely fell in love with the church there- we couldn’t go inside but the outside in the center of the town square is just breathtaking.
I am so happy we took this day trip because I got some of my favorite photos and it was great to see a small town off the beaten path up close and personal. The colors were so vivid and the people full of life. I hope you enjoy this set- I’m pretty proud of it. Thanks again for hosting us for the day, Kelly and letting us roam around and snuggle with Oreo.
The cutest Peace Corps Volunteer you ever did see:
OREO! I die- this puppy is the sweetest little thing!
My 2 favorite images of Katherine I took in Peru:
Really wanted to go up close to this woman but I’m happy I at least got this shot- it was too perfect where she was sitting.
These hat photos are my favorite:
“Sit in the sink!”
The most lovely day even with the most painful sunburn. We all had a few laughs about that. 🙂
